What Maintenance is needed for Nail Grinders?

Like all other electronic grooming equipment, Nail Grinders do require some maintenance. Keep reading to find out how to get the most out of your new nail grinder.

How to Clean your Nail Grinder:

When using the nail grinder on your pets nails, the grinding stone works to slowly grind away the length of the nail. In this process, a lot of very fine dust is created as the nail is filed away. This dust will gather on the housing of the nail grinder, as well as the grinding stone and other nearby surfaces. It is good practice to remove any dust and debris collected on the nail grinder after each use, especially if you will be using this on multiple pets.

To clean the nail grinder, you want remove the dust on the housing using a clipper cleaning brush or an old toothbrush. Once the external dust has been removed, detach the safety cap and clean around the moving parts of the nail grinder using your brush. You can also dust off the stone to remove any surface debris. Once you have removed as much dust as possible, you can take an eraser or piece of cloth to clean the grinding stone. Turn your nail grinder on, and gently tap your eraser/cloth on the grinding stone to remove the debris as it spins.

When to Replace your Nail Grinding Stone:

Both the Codos and Shernbao nail grinders have a professional dremel style grinding stone rather than sandpaper. Dremel style stones are made to last much longer than sandpaper files, and don't need to be replaced very often. For frequent use in a professional setting, we recommend to replace your grinding stone every few months to maintain optimal performance. For home users using this every 4-8 weeks, your grinding stone should last anywhere from 6-18 months, depending on the frequency of use.

For nail grinders with sandpaper attachments, such as the Wahl Premium Electric Nail File, you will need to replace the attachment roughly every 3-6 months, depending on the frequency of use. Electric nail files with sandpaper are not recommended for professionals, as the grinding pads will wear down quickly with frequent use.
